Stormi's Review
11/22/03 at The Shelter, Detroit, MI
Where to start (no pun intended!). Detroit city streets suck. Took forever to find The Shelter because all the streets change names and loop around everything. Walked around a while before the show (note: there is nothing to do in Detroit!), and got to the club at 7pm (doors opened at 8). Erick walked up to me and made fun of me because I was lying down on the steps outside. He ran inside and came right back out with wrist bands for me and my fiance, which I found out later were "all access passes". He tried to bring us inside but the bouncer kicked us out. Went around to the front of the club where there was a mass of Lillix fans. Kim (the drummer of Lillix) came out to talk to a couple of them. I ended up getting into a conversation with her that lasted for a good 10 minutes about being lefty chick drummers. Poor Fiona got soo confused when they moved the tour bus while she was inside the club. She recognized me, so she walked up to me and asked "have you seen a big red bus around here?". lol. Finally the doors opened and we went inside.
Lennon opened the show. During "Goat Fucker" Erick got up on stage and sang along, which totally threw off Phil! While in the middle of one of her other songs I heard her say all of the sudden "Erick don't you fucking mix me!" I turned around to see a devious grin on Erick's face, who was behind the sound board.
After she got done, I saw Billy, who pointed at me and ran up to give me a huge hug remarking, "You're crazy! I can't believe you made it!" Billy's awesome, I love Billy. Aimee then finally made an appearance, give me a big hug as well saying "I'm so glad you made it!" Lillix was next. Spent most of their set hanging out and goofing with Aimee and Erick. During their last song various people from all the bands jumped up on stage.
Then Brassy. Danced with Aimee a good deal of their set. Erick was moving Linda's microphone around and being goofy. Then he stepped back to the sound board where he continuously yelled "you suck, you fucking suck" into the talk back mic. The band was laughing so hard they could barely play! Discussed with Aimee the possibility of my band opening up for them sometime, which I'm keeping my fingers crossed will be next year sometime! Then during they're last song Aimee grabbed my arm and dragged me up to the stage where she and the rest of the bands danced.
Then our beloved theSTART. Lovely, lovely show. Erick got picked on so badly! Louise and Linda stuck duct tape to his nipples, Lennon continued her "bassists are worthless" taunting, Kim poured ice down his pants, although he had every bit of it coming! Aimee got up right in my face on "Hi Flyer" and we shared the mic while singing "put the gun away".
During "Shakedown" all the other bands got up on stage and danced. Good fun. After they got done playing Billy took off his snare drumhead, dragged me over to the merch table where he ferociously searched for a sharpie that worked, and wrote "Stormi, you rock with the toppermost of the poppermost"! I have no idea what the hell that means, but it sounds funny! All my love to Mr. Billy B. He's been so good to me this year :)
After the show had the privilege of hanging out with the band for a good hour and a half. Shared free beer with Aimee, talked of movies and other random topics. One of the guys that was hanging out with us asked Erick if he was permanent. In reply he pulled down his pants to reveal his circles tattoo on his ass. Gotta love Erick. Had the privilege of meeting miss Jenny, which was a welcome suprise. I was talking to someone about the Denver show and heard a voice behind me yell "You're Stormi!". Hung out with all the bands (and Eno!) for a good while until they began to part they're separate ways. Billy did this goofy good-bye dance that had us all laughing. Poor Aimee did NOT want to leave. She was saying "I do this every tour. It feels like the end!" Sad as it was to leave, it was still a blast. I wouldn't have missed that crazy night for the world! And then, the 17 hour drive home......
