Bre's Review
3/22/02 at Graceland, Seattle, WA.

Don and I usually get to concerts at least 6 hours early, but for some reason we didn't arrive to ths one until around 4:30 (1 hour before doors open). There really weren't a lot of people there yet, which disappointed me. We passed out our Deadsy swag, and some stickers for our band Rottencore, and eventually they let us in. I went into the main show area to wait for Don to get out of the bar, and I saw Aimee and Jamie. She is so damn small, I couldn't believe it (then again most famous people I meet are). I was star-struck for a minute, considering the fact that Aimee is my Goddess and all, but all that passed when Don came back and we went to go buy some merch. I thought it was really cool that Aimee was the one selling it. So we bought some buttons ("Ooooo look! A BLUE one! Here, take it, it's rare!" -Aimee, while handing one to me, taking one for herself and giving one to Jamie), a shirt (the one with the CD cover on it) and stickers. Aimee and Jamie sign my CD booklet. Jamie leaned over the counter and said "You're those Deadsy guys, aren't you?" "Yep!" - me and Don "You like them?" "Oh HELL yeah!" That was pretty cool.

TheSTART came on, and immediately blew me away with 'Nemesis'. They are definitely one of the few bands in the world that actually sounds better live. Everything after that was kind of a blur, but I do know they played Gorgeous, Glimmer Man, Melt, Shakedown!, Hang On Me, and some new ones ("Let's hear it for new ones!" -Jeff), Big Shot, and The 1234. The BEST fucking song they played though, was Her Song (MY song!) and Aimee dedicated it to all the women there that night, "especially those in rock bands", and I just started going nuts in my little spot in the front row. Their set ended too soon (I just then realize I've taken 21 live pics), and while Finch came on we were half paying attention to them, but mostly kinda hanging around Aimee. We talked to her about getting a record deal, finding distributors and shit. Don always makes sure to make our band name very clear, hehe. So some chick wearing a Toilet Boys shirt has been standing there sorta listening, and she asked what our band name was and Aimee kinda yelled "Rottencore!" with glee :) Sometime after that, we went to get more stickers and buttons (we HAD to support them as much as we possibly could) and Don hands her a couple bucks for some stickers, and she just kinda shakes her head, and very covertly hands him about 10. She's so cool. About 10 mins. later, we see that Aimee has come out from behind the counter and is taking pictures with some girls, so Don and I haul ass aver there and ask if we can get some. She's like "Of course!" and suddenly grabs me and gives me the most wonderful Aimee hug for the picture. Don forgets to turn on the flash, and so I have to show him, and we take another pic ("I made the weirdest face in that one" -Aimee), then I take one of him and her. Shortly after, I find an abandoned red and black theSTART tshirt on the ground (SAD!). Of course I take it.

The rest of Finch was cool, they have quite the fan following. I get Jeff to sign my booklet, Don gets Aimee's signature on his shirt, I get another Aimee sig. on a theSTART flyer for my brother, and somewhere along the way Don finds himself in Finch's van, listens to some underground Cali band with them, talks about music biz shit, and gets a drumstick. Moth sucked. That's all I have to say about that. We go out into the lounge to escape until Johnny (Graceland security and singer of Seattle band Himsa) tells us to get out 'cause I'm underage. So we endure Moth some more until we can get out. We go sit in the freezing cold to wait for my mom. On the way to the car after we see her drive by, Jeff starts spouting about how the essentials of life are ramen, weed, and coke (or something like that). I laugh and we leave. It's too bad I didn't see Scott all night, I'm missing his signature! I didn't see Eno either. But it was a WONDERFUL show. If you guys ever get to see theSTART, just keep buying merch! Aimee is a wonderful person to talk to!
